There are claims it boosts metabolism and burns fat more effectively but very little reasoning behind how it does that. The recipes vary, some are more simple, 1 teaspoon of baking soda with water, and others add additional ingredients like lemon juice, grapefruit and apple cider vinegar.

Here are a few simple tips that will work:
- Drink a glass of water before every meal. In some studies, doing this alone has been found to reduce overall calories consumed by 20%.
- If you are going out to dinner, spoil your appetite beforehand. Eat some carrots or nuts so you don't show up starving.
- Drink plain water. It will keep you fuller throughout the day and often dehydration is mistaken for hunger.
